The great people of Wet Planet welcome First Descents again for another year of exciting whitewater. The participants will be paddling the mighty Klickitat and rafting the middle White Salmon. These weeks are filled with waves, both of happiness and water. What we know for sure is, they are proven to be perfect weeks of healing and learning.
Adriene has (finally) decided to at least come to the NFC as an athlete. She will be celebrating her 30th birthday the day of the Jakes race and will be an unknown if she will race, for a while. For information on the event check out: http://northforkchampionship.com/
Adriene returns to another year of competing in the GoPro Mountain Games, her 11th year. This weekend always proves to be both heartbreaking and exciting. She has only won the extreme race once, in 2011, but has podiumed every year except one. She also shares her freestyle ability in the frigid waters of Gore Creek, flowing through Vail, CO. She usually places pretty well, despite not training in the moves or the feature.
Adriene is taking part of the Send, Unleashed competition series in Canada this year. Expect to see some massive waves and huge rapids of a flooded Quebec region. This series was started by four guys who just love kayaking and want to showcase it in the best way, a bunch of good kayakers getting together and going bigger than ever.
Join in on the adventures of Tuck Fest. Whether it be mountain biking, yoga, kayaking, SUPing, swimming or rock climbing, there is an event or activity for you this weekend.
Adriene will be teaching a Phantom Fast workshop on Saturday at 11:00 am, come by the Dagger booth for details.
As experienced female paddlers we know what it feels like to be the only woman paddling with a group of guys on steep creeks. It can be a lot of fun and it can also be intimidating. That intimidation factor comes from the different ways that men and women deal with challenging situations. There is scientific evidence that women experience a different stress response than men leading women to seek out strong support systems (especially with other women) when facing challenges. This is one of the reasons why womens clinics are so powerful in building confidence and why we feel that our creek week is a great way to build your creeking confidence and skills.
